As a family and a business we work hard and care very much about the quality of the meat we produce and sell. Our strengths are not in Marketing or snappy script writing but Butchery, plain & simple. We offer a very rare thing in this modern meat market, a butchers shop that is run alongside a private abattoir. Nationally like many other industries the meat trade is overwhelmingly run by corporate, multinational foreign owned companies that run with the sole purpose of making the executives and the shareholders a profit.
Being a customer in our shop means that you support not just our family but all those that work with us and in turn the local community.
You are enabling local farming families to sell their stock free from the stress of long distance haulage. The Food Miles of the meat sold in our shop ranges from about a mile to just over 20 miles inclusive of Farm to abattoir and abattoir to shop. We don’t think many butchers can make that claim.
We offer value for money, you get as standard, grass fed, traditionally butchered, dry matured, hung and any of the other buzz word tags attached to meat these days without a premium price. We sell all parts that are edible and legal so if you want something and you are not sure what it is just ask. Some of the older cuts that are coming back into fashion are only available from a butcher that sells the whole carcass as most shops buy it all in boxes ready cut and only buy what they sell. If we have to buy in extra it comes from a small wholesale abattoir in Cornwall keeping it as local as possible.
We do not sell any imported products and all animals slaughtered at our abattoir and sold in our shop are pre-stunned according to the humane slaughter association guidelines.

Our Farm suppliers are local, so local you will probably know them. Not just local somewhere in Devon or the Southwest but Local to Ashburton.
Our suppliers are fabulous at what they do, we know the local farmers and we support them by buying their stock every week regardless of fluctuating wholesale cost. The Farmers that we buy from have the highest of standards in welfare and stock husbandry. They will have bloodlines in their stock breeding that go back many, many years, in most cases generations of their families have worked to consistently produce the best possible herd or flock, proud to show them round the County and beyond.
We can tell you where the animals you choose to eat have been born, nurtured and where in the end they were butchered. We don’t only provide you with a number or a little Union Jack, we offer certainty.
We are surrounded by open moors, fields of grass and farms and our countryside is full of cattle & sheep living outside being grass fed. We needn't to go further to source the best when we live in one of the prime stock farming areas in the country.
